With more than 180 entries and a theme of "Christmas Around the World," the Main Street Lufkin Lighted Christmas Parade made its annual tour around downtown Lufkin on Tuesday evening, officially commencing the festivities of the Christmas season.
Lufkin Panther head coach John Outlaw, who earned his 300th coaching victory following a 30–10 win against The Woodlands on Oct. 7, served as grand marshal and led the parade with members of the city′s finest and bravest from the Lufkin Police Department and Lufkin Fire Department.
Holiday music ranging from "Sleigh Ride" and "Feliz Navidad" and even a little bit of snow filled the chilly air as floats of all shapes and sizes passed down First Street, Burke Avenue and Second Street before going back toward the Pitser Garrison Civic Center.
Floats were judged based on creativity and first–, second– and third–place prizes were awarded in commercial and non–commercial categories.
Texas Home Health won first prize for a commercial business, followed by Southland Rehabilitation Center and A–1 Party Rentals.
Etoile ISD won first place for a non–commercial group, followed by the Angelina County Sheriff′s Office and Kurth Memorial Library.
